Swimming Pool Trends - Landscaping and Design

Swimming pools today are becoming a lot more geometric and symmetrical. Jason Elboz, the Director of Space Landscape Designs explains, “The position and the shape of the pool has is becoming extremely important. More and more pools are being positioned close to the house and now being part of the entertaining and living space. You want to be able to view the pool while sitting inside at your lounge or dining area. The pool is now becoming a large water feature to the backyard and landscaping.”

The look of natural stone is the ideal solution for the coping around the pool. For low maintenance a porcelain tile is ideal with good slip ratings. Natural stone which blends in with the landscaping is a great look. This can be sealed which prevents staining to the product. Decking is also a great natural product to position around small areas of the pool. Yes there is maintenance but the natural look and feel certainly adds value to the swimming pool design.

The Rolls Royce finish to the interior of the pool is a fully tiled pool. A Glass mosaic which comes in many forms of colour really adds that prestige look to the swimming pool design. A tiled pool will never date and has the best feel on your feet. Random colours in the tiles add an individual character to the interior. Traditional pool tile colours are blues, greens and whites. For the more daring don’t rule out colours such as blacks and purples.

As discussed with Space Landscape Designs it is important that landscape design
blends in with the swimming pool. Today you want the backyard design to create an open plan style of garden. An alfresco area off the back of the house opening out to elements such as the swimming pool, lawn area, garden all for entertaining create a vision of space. This is an extension from the open plan living inside of the house.

Upturn walls which can include water features work well when the swimming pool is positioned closed to the boundary. Feature planting can be positioned behind the wall which softens the walling. The strategic positing of swimout ledges and entry steps are important. You want to be able to keep a clean line from one end to another. Swimout ledges are ideal for sitting and young children to stand on. They become a useful option for when young kids merge from diving down to the bottom of the pool.
