FAQ asked 13 July 2011

I am thinking of replacing a sliding door with a bifold door, what would this cost?

Ed Stelling's answer

Bifold doors require a high level of support for their weight. A sliding door requires a lot less support.
First, you need to consult your builder to see if there is a suitable lintel in place already. If the lintel is in place then you are only up for a standard installation, perhaps $1,000 or so.
The cost of installing a lintel, would be more than the bifold door, so get a few quotes.

I commenced my working life in the UK as a photographer, where I spent time in my studio and undertaking fieldwork for a major university. Ending up teaching rather than doing, I became bored and retrained to become an industrial engineer, which led me into consulting and travelling.

With a growing family I moved to Australia, and established the training department at the largest privately owned company in the world. I then moved back into consulting with Deloittes, before ending up in general management, most recently in what was to become the largest single site window manufacturer in the Southern hemisphere. Then in 2005 I found myself bored again, so I started EcoClassic.

With 5 kids, and 9 grandchildren, a relaxed life is my goal and helping people helps me to enjoy life. I have almost 40 years in management including 14 years in windows.
