Installing a Clothesline to a Weatherboard Wall

Installing a Clothesline to a Weatherboard Wall

We get a lot of questions from customers about if its possible to install a clothesline to a weatherboard wall as its not a solid masonry surface.

The answer is yes you can install a wall mounted clothesline on a weatherboard house, but there are important factors to consider and its really not recommened.

Unlike a brick wall or concrete surface a weatherboard wall is not as solid, so installing a fold down clothesline to this can cause issues.

Extra precautions are needed to maintain structural integrity.

The best approach is to ensure the folding frame or fold down clothesline is secured to the wall studs......rather than just the weatherboard itself.

If the clothesline is only attached to the boards......it may not be strong enough to hold wet washing--especially in extreme weather conditions!

What Should I Consider When Choosing a Clothesline for My Weatherboard House?

When choosing a clothesline for a weatherboard house, consider the following:
  • Weight Capacity – Ensure the clothes line can handle your household’s laundry needs.
  • Space Availability – Choose a size that fits your available small space or outdoor space.
  • Durability – Opt for galvanised steel frames to withstand extreme weather conditions.
  • Installation Feasibility – If wall mounting is not ideal, consider a ground mounted alternative.
Ground Mount Kit: A Great Alternative to Mounting a Clothesline on a Weatherboard Wall

If your weatherboard wall is not strong enough or you don’t want to drill into it, there are alternative installation options.

Ground Mounted Fold Down Clotheslines are installed using upright posts and concrete footings, making them independent of any wall.

In some cases, a sturdy timber fence or metal fence can be used for mounting, provided it is strong enough to support the weight of wet washing.

If you have ample grass or outdoor space, a rotary clothesline could be a great alternative, too.
