Designed Space is pleased to announce that we will be appearing at the HIA Home Ideas Show this year, and will be appearing in the Design Precinct, appropriately located around the Designer Wine Bar - on the far side of the Exhibition Centre from the main entrances.

This year at the Hia Homeshow the Designer Precinct is all about romance!

I think it’s time for a change - The GFC has created a desire to simply life, we’re all thinking of the better days of the past and hopes for the future.

My designer room will have a touch of yesterday, today and tomorrow mixing champagne metallic accessories and lighting with bronze sculptures, a large sofa with exposed carved timber frame upholstered in a luxurious woven silk with a stylised leaf design. Soft Gold, Bronze and touches of Smokey Teal will complement each other. A hand-painted screen with peacocks will introduce a splash of blues and greens.... all sitting in front of a great paint palette!

My goal is to mix it up, bringing back memories of the past and adding some personality. Colour is definitely back! Add a coat of paint, and explore colour!! This new decade – 2010 – is the beginning of a new era full of hope.... and along with this comes colour! Grey is the new neutral, mix it back with recycled timbers and earthy tones. Smokey blues, aged green, tomato red, violet and tangerine will be found in fabrics and accessories, which addresses our need for practicality, as well as fun.

Why not add a few new scatter cushions for a splash of colour, roll out a rug to create warmth, add comfort with a couple of floor cushions, have new lamp shades made, add a piece of artwork from a trip away, update your window coverings with practical solutions that not only look great but will help keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. Restore a piece of furniture that reminds you of people & times that are dear to you.

Accept nature and enjoying the relaxing effect of practical comfort by keeping it real. Natural timbers, pure aniline leathers, hefty woven fabrics mixed back with silks and velvets creates an interesting contrast, playing up the differences in textures and the way nature and light plays with colour.

Simple touches may be where you begin, start off with pieces that complement what you already own. Pairing bold coloured cushions with your existing furniture pieces can make a huge difference or freshening up your look with bright accents pieces.

Live happily in colour!
