Clutter is the accumulation of objects and items that are not used, valued or needed. Clutter reflects worry, it's depressing, ties you down, and leaves little room for new opportunities to enter your life.

Clutter is public enemy no.1 for Feng Shui, because it causes blockages and creates stagnant energy. Feng Shui focuses on the flow of energy in our homes and environment, and how this energy impacts us on a mental, physical and spiritual level. Clutter works against our Feng Shui because it disrupts the flow of energy in our surroundings.

A cluttered space reflects a cluttered mind, and devoting time to filing, sorting and organizing your home or office will lift the energy and enable greater productivity and clearer thinking.

Clearing clutter releases a great deal of energy and getting rid of things that have no significance will help you to feel lighter and revitalised. Starting the process slowly one drawer at a time will slowly release energy which can eventually motivate you to do more de-cluttering. To assess whether an item is clutter, consider the following questions 1) Do I need it? 2) Do I use it? 3) Do I love it?

Often people store items of clutter that could otherwise be sold, donated to charity or given away to someone in greater need. Displaying unwanted gifts and items you dislike around the home stirs negative feelings and brings about unfavourable energy.

The reason why clutter clearing is effective is because changes to your external environment also occur internally. Removing obstacles will encourage energy to flow and enable you to be open for more opportunities.

Consider whether your 'stuff' reflects who you want to be as a person today. If you don't need it, use it or love it - get rid of it! Make a plan to remove the clutter, starting small, one drawer at a time. Clearing clutter is liberating and feels great!
