Moving to Perth - Quarantine Guidelines

If you are moving interstate from anywhere in Australia to WA there are certain quarantine guidelines that must be adhered to. Each state operates under their own biosecurity legislation and the restrictions in place on Western Australia's borders are to protect the state from unwelcome pests, weeds and diseases.

Normal household items that may be subject to inspection include:
  • Plants (potplants, bulbs, bare-rooted plants)
    • Some plants may be brought into the state however prior approval is required from Quarantine WA.
  • Food items
    • Generally speaking, processed foods are usually ok to bring in (tinned foods, cooked food, cakes, common herbs and spices, meat or fish.
    • Fresh fruits and vegetables would need to be declared as some items are prohibited.
    • Honey is not to be brought into WA from other states.
  • Garden Equipment
    • No soil, seeds or garden matter can be brought into WA so all machinery and tools that come into contact with dirt need to be thorougly cleaned. These items need to be declared and will most likely be inspected upon arrival into the state.
  • Pets
    • There are no restrictions on bringing cats and dogs into WA.
    • Some restrictions are in place for birds, reptiles, fish and frogs and permits or licenses may be required.
