Why Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL)???

We’ve all heard about global warming and its effects on the environment, but we also find it difficult to readjust our lifestyles. Now, changing a habit is as easy as changing a light bulb. Replacing your existing light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights, known as CFLs, is an effective way to save both money and energy.

Why Switch?

Your standard incandescent light bulb has remained the same since its invention in the 1800s. Unfortunately, these little glass globes give off more heat than they do light. The energy consumption to brighten your night is far more than needed. CFLs are a handy solution to this dilemma. They release an average of 70% less heat than those standard filament light bulbs that you’re used to.

Of course, the differences don’t end there. The light produced by CFLs is actually much closer to the natural light produced by the sun, which can help to brighten your mood and keep you more productive when working indoors.
And, the CFL lasts up to 10 times longer than the old incandescent bulbs, ultimately saving you a great deal more money.
Last, but certainly not least, CFLs do not break nearly as easily. You won’t have to worry about broken glass when having to replace one.

What CFL Is Right for Me?

When replacing an incandescent bulb, we usually check the wattage written on the glass. However, CFLs produce the same amount of light from a quarter of the wattage. Thus, a 60 watt incandescent bulb would need to be replaced by a 15 watt CFL. Since this can get confusing, try to simply match the lumen rating. This will ensure that you get the same amount of light that you’re used to.

The good news is that CFLs are growing evermore popular, and most light bulb companies produce them as well as the standard bulbs. This means that you can find a CFL for almost any style of fixture, so you can convert all your bulbs to CFLs without any hassle.

Keep in mind also that CFLs come in three different color temperatures. As mentioned before, CFLs can produce light that is very similar to natural daylight. This has to do with the color temperature, which is measured in Kelvin. The three types are:

1) Warm White – 2700K to 3000K
2) Cool White – 4000K to 4200K
3) Daylight – 4800K to 5000K

Take into consideration the room and what exactly its purpose is when choosing the color temperature. For instance, a Warm White bulb might be better for a bedroom while a Daylight bulb would work best in an office.

Change a Light Bulb, Change the World

This is a very simple method to save energy and combat global warming and the environmental issues the world has been having. CFLs can also save you money and provide a much more natural light that is easier on the eyes.
Start by replacing just one bulb and see the difference. Guaranteed, you’ll want to exchange all of your incandescent bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs.
