Light up your child's life
Regardless of whether you want to start from scratch or only change small elements of the room, it is important to plan for the future, always keeping comfort and safety in mind.
Aspects that should be considered when planning out your child’s bedroom include the flooring, wall coverings, storage and bed, with lighting another crucial element that is often overlooked.
According to Solatube General Manager Mark Peall, skylights are a feature fast becoming a popular option with families and should not be ruled out when considering lighting in a child’s bedroom.
“Skylights are not only energy efficient and environmentally friendly but also provide natural lighting, beneficial to a child’s growth.
“They not only improve the environment, but have also been found to have a direct correlation to children’s moods, keeping them calmer, giving them health stability and general happiness,” Mr Peall said.
“The other benefits of natural light cannot be measured in dollars- it provides full-spectrum light, which is easier to read by and causes less eye strain, and with daylight increasing productivity, this helps children play and learn better while improving well-being,” he said.
When considering other features around the room, flooring should be a soft, impact absorbing material such as carpet or a rug; for the walls, choose a wash-and-wear paint variety that makes cleaning spills and marks easy; and think long term when buying beds as gimmicky ones are fun for a year or two but will be outgrown quickly.
Decorating your kid’s bedroom is a great way to give them a place they can call their own while acting as a safe haven where fun and creativity can flow.
