Without knowing your region and its 1:20 ARI, the roof pitch, the roof areas and your gutter and downpipe sizes, it is impossible to give an answer.

Track down the construction/engineering drawings,
your local Council Building department should have copies.
Then have it properly assessed for sound, fire, compliance ,etc.. solutions can be calculated/worked from there.

Sounds silly. The hardieflex is not designed for that use case. Battens are required on all lightweight cladding no question.
