We have been researching windows, too.

Having moved a number of times, I'd suggest packing things from each room together - so all kitchen stuff is in boxes labelled kitchen; clothes are marked with name's bedrooom…

I would think a dark sink itself wouldn't make your kitchen dark unless the whole room is in black and you have little natural light!
