That didi no work either. I did however manage to unscrew the plug and the underlying mechanism with pliers so I could use a plastic universal plug. It works but…

Thanks for that. If only I could get the !@#$#@! thing up so I could unscrew it. Any suggestions short of dismantling the waste system?
